At our school 95% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Our students live in a unique part of town which is isolated from resources, parks, grocery stores, and frequent public transportation. Once the global pandemic began public transportation was cut in half creating more transportation barriers for families using public transportation.
During the global pandemic educational access has been challenging for our students but their brilliance, creativity, and resilience has shined through during this difficult time.
These projects will provide all of our students with needed materials to make learning accessible to them during this difficult time. Thank you for your support!
My Project
Our school is in need of distance learning materials to help our students practice their reading skills with hands-on interactive methods.
This project will provide all students, grades K-2 with materials for their school supply bins that will be used for independent reading activities to reinforce skills being taught.
The sticky notes will be used by students in a variety of ways for our primary elementary students. Kindergartners will use the sticky notes to label items around their house with words that begin with the focus letters. First and second graders will use the sticky notes to strengthen their knowledge of phonics by writing words that they have learned independently.
The index cards will be used to write new sight words on so they are able to display their sight words and review them as they learn more words. The index cards will also be used to assess students' understanding of phonics remotely.
The highlighters will be used to highlight letters/ words/ rhymes/ endings in our student workbooks and also to be used to highlight important details in a story that relate to the reading standard they are working on.
