Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a very low-income school, I see that my students are faced with many challenges that occur in and out of school. When students come to our school, they feel a comfort, safety, and stability that they may not have at home. The students I teach love to receive positive praise and attention. I want to be able to provide my students with a safe, positive, and meaningful academic environment.

Ninety-seven percent of my students receive free and reduced-price lunch. Most students come from immigrant families and live in a low socioeconomic community. These factors may have a huge impact on the students' academic success as well as being exposed to experiences which build background knowledge.
When students enter my classroom, I believe it is important to focus on the growth and potential that each student has. I try to instill in my students that everyone can be a leader no matter what background you have or where you have come from.
My Project
I am requesting essentials like deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste and soap. I have students as young as second grade who desperately need deodorant. These basic supplies are just not readily available in their homes for whatever reason (be it cultural differences, environment, or a true lack of money).
Having these basic essentials not only helps kids to fit in better with peers, to smell better, but also to just feel comfortable.
All of these essentials are things I, personally, take for granted in my own life. However, for parents in poverty, buying a $3 deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush or soap can be nearly impossible.
Through your generous donation, students will be filled with confidence! I have seen it before a boy who had someone say he smelled, now is delighted to smell nice and fresh or a girl that had someone tell her she smelled is embarrassing, now she will be happy to smell powder fresh and they can run at recess without fear. They now have Confidence! With being able to hand out toothpaste and toothbrushes my hope is that my students will start to have left cavities and learn how to have better self hygiene.
