Working with 9th to 12th grade students is a new adventure every day. The students that are in my class come from a variety of different socio-economic backgrounds. Because this school is so diverse, art is an escape to work through their emotions and be able to connect with others like them. Most of the general population of the school comes from low income families and have not used high quality and professional materials in art. There are 1,047 students and 45% of the student population is Free Lunch, 15% Reduced priced lunch, and total Economically Disadvantaged students is 60%.
With this being said, the budget we are given to supply our classrooms is not enough to buy class sets of high quality materials for everyone to use on their project.
I would like to give the students the opportunity to experiment and build a knowledge of how to use different mediums that they may not ever get to use.
My Project
In an art class, basic tools such as rulers and scissors are important to have. When there is a total of 11+ art classes with an estimate of 20-25 students, materials go quickly and are hard to keep replenished.
Drawing, painting, sculptor, and Design classes require multiple different mediums to experiment with such as colored pencils, ink, and different types of paper to be creative.
Paper is a big requirement to any class and it is expensive. These materials will allow the classes to be replenished, and will hopefully last a few years. This donation will help the students be creative and have the tools and materials to be creative.
