My students are in 2nd grade and all have a learning disability. My students are diverse in many ways, including ethnically and economically. My students are all unique in their own ways and they make my job fun and enjoyable.
"If a child cannot learn in the way we teach, we should teach in the way the child can learn." -Dr. Lovaas.
This statement from Dr. Lovaas expresses my teaching philosophy. I aim to make my classroom a fun and positive learning environment for my students. I recognize that they all learn in different ways, and it is my job as an educator to help teach them in those different ways. I aim to help meet their educational and behavioral needs.
My classroom is in need of basic supplies. We need oil pastels to work on art skills. A majority of my students are interested in art and it would be great to be able to expose them to art activities beyond the normal crayon and marker activities. In addition, we are in need of pencils. We are constantly going through pencils in the classroom with writing activities; therefore, it would be great to have plenty in stock for when we run low on them. The addition of these items will also help make them available as reinforcement for my students if they choose to use them for those reasons. My students are all in Special Education and benefit from the use of reinforcement in my classroom.
