One of my most memorable classes in high school was Biology. Why did I enjoy it? It was because of all of the incredible hands-on activities that we did. Now that I'm a Biology teacher, I am inspired to do an excellent job of teaching this subject as my former teachers did.
My students come from a location where more than half the students are eligible for free or reduced lunch, 29% have limited English proficiency and more than 9% are in Special Education.
Since many face challenges at home, hopefully school is a place where they can grow as a person and flourish in learning.
My Project
With these resources, my students will be able to create their own stained microscope slides, produce their own culture dishes, do experiments on photosynthesis and respiration and have the necessary safety protection in the Science laboratory. Students will learn scientific inquiry as well as other specific benchmarks from the Hawaii State Content standards. We need lab supplies including petri dishes, safety goggles, Benedicts solution, and lens paper.
This project is very important because although this is my eighth year teaching Science, this is the first year I am teaching Biology and I am low on basic biological supplies as well as safety ware that are needed for my students to do hands-on activities.
If you donate, many students to come will benefit as several of the materials I chose to order (goggles, aprons, solutions and parafilm) will last a long time.
