My students are very hands-on and enjoy working with manipulatives. It doesn't matter what the subject is, but having whatever in their hand is cool to them. They work well in teams. Looking out for each other is very important.
The class enjoys math and is always looking for ways to improve their skills and understanding.
That being said they struggle at times with bringing math concepts together. I am still on the lookout for different methods to put something in their hand to help their learning.
Using math manipulatives will tremendously help my students learning place value. Many of my classes enjoy but also need hands-on experience with any subject. Hands-on teaching works with math. My class this year is attracted to using manipulatives in math, and surprisingly they learn from it.
The hands-on experience is one of the most robust teaching methods a student may have.
In third grade, three and four-digit addition and subtraction is one of the core standards taught. Many students struggle with grouping and ungrouping in place value when it comes to multi-digit math operations.
Having the opportunity of each student having a base ten block set at their desk will make things happen in their learning. Sharing can work, but one on one with student and set will be fantastic.
