Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach Kindergarten at a Title I school. The majority of our students receive free or reduced rate lunch and come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. In the past, there have been homeless students in our school. They deal with issues that interfere with their learning. They do not feel clean and are worried about their next meal. I want to be prepared for the future in case I have a student in this situation so that I may have the resources to assist them.
My students come from diverse backgrounds, and I love to foster their uniqueness.
They all bring something special to our classroom. They have limited resources at home, and my goal is to provide them the resources needed to succeed.
My Project
I teach Kindergarten in a Title I school. The majority of our students are on free lunch and are living below the poverty line. On some occasions our school has had the sad situation of a family facing homelessness. With the new school year fast approaching, I want to be prepared in the event any of my students are dealing with these hardships.I want to provide some bare necessities to make them feel comfortable when dealing with this situation. Students need to feel safe and have the bare necessities in their lives in order for learning to take place. The snacks such as the kind bars, chips, fruit snacks and crackers will provide food in their tummies when they are hungry in class due to them not eating well at home. The flushable wipes and hand soap with dispenser will allow them to freshen up and feel clean. The Lysol wipes will allow them to sanitize items for hygiene purposes. I will make goody bags for them to take these items with them. These resources will allow my students to be more comfortable in a school setting, and they, in turn, will be able to focus.
