What would our world be like with no music? When I talk with adults, many tell me their stories of when they were involved in instrumental music and the impact it had on them. Others wished they had played an instrument but didn't have an opportunity.
The elementary school where I teach has gone to an "innovative" music program this year.
This means that all 4th, 5th and 6th graders get to learn a band or orchestra instrument. I teach the band portion of this program. All fourth and fifth graders in my program are experiencing band for the first time this year while sixth grade is a mix of new and experienced musicians. This is a really big deal because many of these students are from low income families where they might not have the opportunity to experience instrumental music if not for the school program.
My Project
Every 4th, 5th and 6th grader in my school gets to be part of the band or orchestra. I teach the band. The band is a big part of the community and will be performing 2 formal concerts throughout the year as well as performing at other school functions.
By donating to this project, students will be given the opportunity to be successful on their instruments!
Many of my students are low income and cannot afford the reeds necessary to play their clarinets, bass clarinets and alto saxophones. They are so eager to learn and get better. With your help, these kids will be getting the gift of making music!
