My students all are musicians that perform in Concert and Marching Band that is comprised of 7th-12th grade students. We have a beginner 6th grade band and march 7th through 12th grades. The students are well behaved and respectful students and achieve high levels of performance on the stage (even the big green stage at halftime during football season) as well as the classroom. There are just a few things that they need and don't have, which would really put the finishing touches on their performances.
The students are all very excited about performing music and frequently perform with school, church and community ensembles and occasionaly as soloists.
Everyone enjoys hearing the students play their instruments and they contribute their talents across the entire school and community in every activity that goes on. Many of our students graduate and attend colleges and universities on scholarships to perform in the band.
My Project
The band students will benefit greatly both in their individual skill development as musicians as well as their understanding of ensemble skills. This will empower the students to have more successful auditions for district and state honor bands and clinics. Also, the group will sound better in concert, having learned some of the ensemble skills taught in this book.
Daily use of a good method book is one of the foundations of a successful concert program, and when the concert band improves all aspects of the band program improve.
This will trickle down to improve small ensembles, marching band and may even eventually facilitate the development of a jazz band.
