This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are young, excited learners with diverse backgrounds. They are always eager to take on new challenges and explore. My students are from various different economic backgrounds. Our school is considered to be a school of need according to the number of students that qualify financially for free lunch programs.

My students are very active.

Therefore, I try to create projects that keep them moving, thinking, and challenging. With students eager to learn, I definitely want to make sure that I have the necessary resources for them to complete their project.

My Project

Our special needs students do not have a typical Physical Education class to take while in school due to their disabilities. However, we do give them open time so they can have some of the experiences of being active. We call this sensory time. During this time, we take them in the gym. One day one of the teachers allowed one of the kids to play with her exercise ball. All the kids then wanted to play with it. It became the popular sensory toy.

I would like to have more of the exercise balls for our special needs students to play with during their sensory time.

They are very active while using the exercise balls.
