My Students
I teach third grade students in a middle class community with very involved parents. My students enjoy coming to school and learning. Most enter 3rd grade able to read with accuracy and ready to dive deeper into comprehension. My students have favorite books and authors and are motivated to read.
Third grade is the time they are eager to start reading longer chapter books. They will spend long periods of time reading just for pleasure. They are delightful, respectful and responsible kids.
My Project
Students love to hear their teacher read books aloud and I love to see the look on my students faces as they listen. These books will transform my reading instruction. I will use this time when my students are most engaged to teach. As I read the book throughout the week I will model how to think deeply, ask questions, monitor comprehension, and more. Each week I will focus on different comprehension skills and strategies that will take my learners on a reading journey like never before.
The goal is to improve students’ reading comprehension, vocabulary development, grammar and writing using great books that include folktales, poetry, multi-cultural themes, character education and values.
