My Students

I have been teaching at the same Title I school for the last 17 years and every year is better than the last. If I had to describe my students in one word, it would be amazing! They are determined, dedicated, enthusiastic, and engaged. We have just begun a year long journey of learning full of new experiences and challenges. I know that they are willing to work hard, take risks and make incredible progress.

Every year I teach my students important information like how to read and write and do math problems but in the end, they teach me some pretty important things, too.

Like how to enjoy the moment, show empathy and understanding for each other during difficult times, be flexible, conquer challenges, power through difficult situations and how to be resilient. I am lucky to have them!

My Project

I teach kindergarten inclusion which means over half of my students have an IEP - for academic, behavior or physical needs. Many of my students have difficulties with balance, attention, physical mobility and motor planning.

These river stones would be an amazing addition to our classroom because my students would use these to practice both academic and motor skills.

My students have diverse and varied needs and they need to work on all of them. These river stones would be paired with learning activities like counting, addition, subtraction, story problems, phonics, segmenting and blending sounds, patterns and phonemic awareness. My students can also use these river stones to practice balance skills, get the wiggles out, handle sensory overload and even during inside recess during the cold months.
