My Students

All of my students are middle school special needs children who are all from Brooklyn, New York. They live a guarded life at home and at school. We would like to teach them that they are different and all children have differences. My students are intellectually delayed and function well behind their age/grade level.

My students need to learn the how to's of life more than the typical book learning of school.

We are pushing to teach in a less conventional way in order to get these life skills across to them. We have pet-assisted learning with animals in the classroom, hygiene skills, and hands-on learning and community-based projects.

My Project

My students are tired of the same old seats and desks that are so old they wobble. My students need an alternate way of seating and learning. I feel they will have a better outlook in coming to school if their classroom was like their home. I feel students want to be comfortable and not rigid in a desk and hard chair. I know I can not sit in students chairs, so how in the world do they?

We would love to start off by changing the seats and sitting ability of our students by allowing them to sit in a comfy chair.

This will help the body stay alert and wanting to learn. One classroom is already set up with amazing chairs and desks and the students love it. We are on our way. All the students walk by the room and look in, they seem jealous. I want those desks. It is time to adjust our way of thinking and allow classrooms to be inviting and comfortable.
