This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I love to teach my students in a Title I school in San Francisco. 100% of the students at my school are eligible for Free or Reduced Lunch. My students come from diverse backgrounds of culture, language, and race, and many of them are Newcomers.

I love seeing their happy faces with smiles as they walk into my classroom in the morning and receiving hugs at the end of school day.

To many of my studetns, my classroom is the most stable and safe environment they have in their lives. My students are creative, curious, and full of questions, and they deserve an optimal classroom environment. It is very important to me that my classroom is well organized to enable them to fully focus on their learning.

My Project

As a teacher that puts equity at the center, I have been changing classroom configuration to make most of the classroom space available for my students. One of the biggest challenges is that I have no adequate space to store my students' backpacks. I share my classroom with an Afterschool program. I have a closet, but the space is used for afterschool program's materials and supplies. I tried keeping my students' backpacks on their chairs, but it resulted in students tripping over the straps, losing their belongings, water spilled, and lunchbags on the floor. Now, we use the closet floor to store their backpacks, lunchboxes, jackets, and it is NOT working! I often find students arguing with each other about double parking of their backpacks.

My students need a place to keep their backpacks safely!

It is a big challenge to find a place where my students can safely keep their backpacks while utilizing the rest of classroom space for learning. I want to teach my students to be responsible citizens, and I believe it starts with taking care of their belongings. Please help my students have an organized classroom. This mobile backpack rack will help us do just that!
