This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
I teach students in a Title I school in Mississippi. My school is very diverse. We have a mixed population of English language learners, low-income families, and middle/upper-class families. Despite what my students may be experiencing outside of school, they still come ready to learn each and every day.
My students are respectful, kindhearted, and always eager to learn more.
My students come to school daily ready to learn despite the challenges they face day to day. For a lot of my students, school is the only constant in their life.
Backpacks are needed for organization and ensuring students bring their work to and from school. This project includes a variety of types of backpacks because space is limited in some classrooms making the need for a backpack is a necessity. At our school, we also pack backpacks with supplies students need to be successful on homework (pencils, paper, colored pencils, scissors, glue sticks, etc). It is very sad to see a student struggle with completing homework due to a lack of having a backpack and the needed supplies.
Being able to give backpacks to students in need will have a direct impact on their academic achievement.
