It is being used as a positive incentive to encourage good behavior, attendance, academic effort, and teamwork. We've been using them in a variety of ways, from calming tools during independent work to as part of group activities. The students used stress balls, fidget spinners, and textured fabric squares to help focus their minds and calm their bodies before diving into a long math activity. The tools really helped them stay centered and engaged.\r\n\r\nThe students were absolutely thrilled when they first saw the sensory items! There was a lot of excitement as they explored the different textures and shapes. Many of them were eager to try the items immediately and even shared them with their classmates. I noticed that some students who typically struggle with attention or anxiety were especially drawn to the items. They were excited about the idea of having something they could use to help them focus or self-regulate, and it made a noticeable difference in their behavior and participation.\r\n\r\nNow that my students are more comfortable using the sensory items, the next steps will be to integrate them into even more lessons and activities. We'll also continue using them during moments when students need breaks. If they're getting overwhelmed or distracted, they can use the items to help calm down before returning to their work. Over time, I hope that the students will start to develop self-awareness and learn when and how to use the tools independently.","fullyFundedDate":1755720348253,"projectUrl":"project/sensory-seeking/9284147/","projectTitle":"Sensory Seeking","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Grimes","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9702524_orig.jpg?crop=2057,2057,x0,y89&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1724440518149","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9702524"},{"teacherId":3482663,"projectId":9339326,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, our students have been joyfully putting our new games and activities to use—and the impact has already been incredible!\r\n\r\nFrom the moment the materials arrived, the excitement was through the roof. Students crowded around the boxes, guessing what each one contained, and their faces lit up when they discovered the new indoor and outdoor games. Many had never seen some of the items before—especially the pickleball sets—so the sense of curiosity and anticipation was huge.\r\n\r\nWe've already begun using these resources during recess and our PBIS \"Fun Friday\" time. One of my favorite moments happened last week during Fun Friday. A group of students who often struggle to work together decided to try one of the new board games. By the end of the game they were cheering each other on, talking through strategies, and even celebrating small successes together. Watching them build teamwork and resilience was truly rewarding and that is all thanks to you!\r\n\r\nOutside, students have been eager to learn the basics of pickleball. You should have seen them on the first day—some swinging wildly, some hitting the ball for the very first time, all of them laughing and determined to improve. They're already asking when they can play again, and they're beginning to develop the persistence that comes from trying and failing\r\n\r\nAs we move into our next PBIS unit, we plan to use these activities to reinforce positive behavior and give students purposeful choices during both indoor and outdoor play. \r\n\r\nYour contribution has given our students more than just games—you've helped create opportunities for collaboration, joy, and growth.
