We live in rural Maine with limited resources and a high level of poverty. The students in our school need to be supported to succeed academically and find how they best learn. I teach junior high level mathematics in a small school. My students enjoy the flexibility of learning in small group environments and with teachers who look after not only their academic needs, but their needs as a whole. The more we encourage our students to succeed academically, they more they will thrive throughout their lives.
My Project
I teach math and require that my students always have white board markers and pencils with erasers. For some students it's hard to always have those supplies, especially as the year goes on and they need to replenish. Also, I use folders to keep student work for when I have a sub. Tissues, well everyone needs those.
Having the basic supplies for them makes students more ready to work.
Looking for markers or pencils takes time and worrying about replenishing supplies can be a big stress. By having what we need for supplies when we need them we can focus on education and learning.
