Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Every day, regardless of the challenges in their lives, my students work relentlessly hard to grow academically, social-emotionally, and become justice-oriented individuals. My students use their knowledge and skills to eliminate the various systems of oppression that keep them and their families from achieving their full potential.

My class is a group of passionate, funny, freedom-fighting and inquisitive kids who want to use their education to improve their lives and community.

Our students' daily lives are full of adversity. At our school, one hundred percent of students qualify and receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of our students face many challenges at home; however, this does not get in the way of their success. Instead, they remain perseverant and continue to strive and achieve excellence.

My Project

I care deeply about my students. Every day, I do the best I can to help my students grow academically while simultaneously making sure their basic needs are met. Addressing the basic needs of my students not only helps them feel safe and loved but also helps them thrive academically.

At all times, I want my students to have access to the tools they need to succeed in my classroom.

I want them to focus on their studies and not on worrying about not having pencils, pens, or any other materials they might need to produce high caliber work.

Throughout the year, my scholars do not only focus on developing their reading, writing, and math skills but they also learn to strengthen their organizational skills. Having pencils, pens, tape dispensers, erasers, and pencils pouches will help us save time and further reinforce my student's organizational skills. I teach my students to organize and correctly use our classroom supplies. My students learn to respect and be grateful for the tools that allow them to learn and complete their work. Currently, every time we run out of pencils, pens, or any other materials we have to wait several minutes and sometimes days to get what we need.

We will use these supplies for writing exercises, community building activities, organizing our classroom materials, and so much more! Currently, my classroom does not have all the resources it requires to truly set-up my scholars up for success. We have a couple of pieces of technology, but we need an extension cord to connect them to our fully functioning electrical outlet. We need copy paper for our homework packets.
