My students need basic classroom materials for back to school. The materials I hope to receive will directly benefit my students, because some students will unfortunately come to school with not even a pencil.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low-income school district, my students are faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences that they might not encounter outside of school.
My students are smart, funny and very creative.
They like to move, they love to read and love interactive math games.
Many of them are being raised in single parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical." From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence with all the tools necessary in today's world.
My Project
I have selected a variety of basic back to school items, such as: pencils, glue sticks, erasers, and pencil sharpeners. Unfortunately some of my students were directly impacted by the devastation of Hurricane Harvey, and are still recovering, so parents are left with the cost of "back to school," and the cost associated with recovery efforts. The items requested will allow my students to come back to school without worrying about not having the sufficient materials needed to be successful.
I hope with the start of the new academic school year students can recover mentally from the devastation that unfolded last year.
Which is why I have also included a cricut machine that will allow the students a creative outlet for their projects.
