Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a second grade teacher in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I teach children from different cultures and backgrounds. The one thing most of my students have in common is the inability to buy their own school supplies. Many of my students come to school willing to learn, however, they lack the resources to begin the first day of school. Some of the children come to school without pencils and notebooks. The students that do manage to come to school with pencils and notebooks, lack glue and scissors. Some students come to school without book-bags. Often their books get ruined when it rains, or they carry their books in plastic bags.
Students are sent home in June with supply lists for what they need for September. These lists include notebooks, folders, scissors, glue, pencils, erasers,and various other supplies. This year I would love to be able to send a note home to my parents telling them that their children's' school supplies have already been purchased, so have a wonderful Summer. I can do this with your help.
My students are smart and eager to learn. They just need somebody like you to help give them the start they need. With your assistance my children can come to their second grade class this fall with all of the resources they need to begin to build the foundation to be successful in the second grade.
