I hope this will give you sense of the impact you have made! \r\n\r\nStudent A becomes overwhelmed by the noisy cafeteria in the morning and often overheats. Student A tends to seek out physical touch from adults to help them stay calm. Student A often struggles with verbal communication and may begin to hit, kick, yell or knock things over when feeling overwhelmed. \r\n\r\nSince receiving donations, Student A begins each morning in the movement and regulation room. Student A regulates by rocking on the padded rocker, by using a handheld fan for temperature regulation, and by following a consistent morning routine in a familiar and quiet space. Upon returning to class, Student A wears a compression vest for increased proprioceptive input to help them focus for classroom activities. Throughout the day, a paraprofessional will bring Student A to the movement room when they need a regulation or movement break. \r\n\r\nThe classroom teacher has reported a significant reduction in non-preferred behaviors in class (hitting, kicking, and knocking over classroom items) and an improvement in overall mood and classroom participation since starting this sensory routine. \r\n\r\nIt has been rewarding to see such significant improvements in this student. The team and I are so thankful for your contributions that helped make this possible. They even looked around my room and noticed some new items and they were so eager and excited to try the new stuff! They were thrilled to play with the STEM blocks which had the Minecraft theme- they worked in a small group to encourage social skills, helped each other out to build parts together, addressed fine motor skills/visual motor skills, they problem solved, they resolved conflicts when they both wanted the same piece, they became creative and made up a \"story\".\r\n\r\nThe sensory toys (weighted husky, sensory brushes, weighted blanket) helped my students when they needed deep pressure input to calm a stressed mind and body at a time when they had trouble self regulating themselves. The emoji magnets were a big hit with my neurodivergent student as they had difficulty expressing themselves. With the help of the magnets, they learned the range of emotions and that all emotions are ok.\r\n\r\nThe student created beautiful cards, arts and crafts projects, and worked on handwriting skills with the colorful paper and cardstock. The materials we've created together are giving my students the support they need to develop their reading skills at their own pace, in a way that feels relevant and exciting to them.\r\n\r\nThanks to your support, we've been able to provide customized reading materials that are empowering my students to build confidence, deepen their understanding, and develop a love for reading. The familiar yet engaging Mr. Potato Head helped them work on body awareness as they pointed to their own eyes, nose, and other features after placing them on Mr. Potato Head. This fun activity also strengthened their visual motor and fine motor skills. Zingo has been another hit, sparking enthusiasm and encouraging language development as students eagerly called out words and matched their cards. These hands-on games have transformed skill-building into an enjoyable experience, making learning feel like play.\r\n\r\nOne of the most rewarding moments came when a student who often struggles to participate in classroom activities became fully engaged with the new games. Seeing the bright smile on their face as they actively played and interacted was a heartwarming reminder of how impactful these resources are. The games provide a structured yet exciting way for students to develop essential skills like body awareness, coordination, and communication. Each session brings new opportunities for growth, and it's amazing to see the students so motivated and involved.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we plan to continue integrating these games into our daily routines in even more creative ways. By incorporating movement-based challenges and group activities, we will make skill-building even more dynamic and engaging. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, our room is now filled with fun and interactive tools that not only support learning but also boost confidence and participation. I use the items sent daily. The student are learning through play just as planned. \r\n\r\nThe wiggle seats have made a an impact on my busy students in conventional and unconventional ways. One student was able to attend to a table top task for 3 extra minutes after introducing the seat into his classroom. Another student of mine placed it in his lap and said \"this will help me focus\" as he rubbed his hands across the textured surface. \r\n\r\nThe tunnel has been a diverse favorite for many students. My initial intention was to encourage movement with the tunnel and use it as a part of an obstacle course. However several students have found refuge in the tunnel. Using it has a sensory escape when overwhelmed by emotions and all the different input that comes with the school day. They come out feeling calmer, regulated and better able to access education and learning. As an OT newly practicing in the school setting, I have found that is one of the most important parts of my job. \r\n\r\nI cant say thank you enough donors. I deeply care about my role at P.S 380. Your support has allowed me to support my students with resources. They are better able to access their true potential with this support. If you have special needs, know someone with special needs you know the importance of potential and advocacy for our students. Your kindness has impacted the lives of my students in little, big and long term ways allowing them to take a step closer to being their best selves.
