Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Middle school students are a different breed! They are bright, funny, inspiring, emotional, intense, energetic, and extremely talented. In the midst of discovering who they will become as they continue to grow, they are learning and developing new skills and talents. As their teacher, it is my job to love, support and encourage them as they navigate through this crazy world called "Middle School."
My students are an amazing group of kids from all over the world - literally!
As an ESOL teacher, I work with students whose second language is English. Many come to me shy, a little scared and nervous, yet eager to learn. At times, they speak little to no English and are placed into classrooms where only English is spoken. Imagine how difficult that would be!
Even with these challenges, they are strong young men and women who realize the value and importance of a strong education. They work harder, study longer, and push themselves to be the best they can be. As hard as middle school already is for kids this age, my students embrace it. They celebrate their differences and the success of one another. They are an inspiration to me!
My Project
Supplies may seem like a simple request, but for my ELL students, it can make all the difference in the world! My students, many times, come to school with no supplies or the wrong supplies. Often, this is simply because of the language barrier. They just may not understand or even know what they need for each class.
Having the supplies they need for class gives my ELL students confidence and helps them be prepared for any assignment or project.
It is such a relief to my students to know that they can come to me for notebook paper, or pens, or even project poster paper. Knowing that I am there to support them in the most simple way makes their transition to a new country and a new school just a little easier.
For this project, paper, pens, pencils, markers, high-lighters, dividers, page protectors, and even Post-It notes chart paper will help my students be prepared for anything! Most of these supplies will be used on daily basis, not only in my class, but in all of their classes. I also like to take a few class periods to help my students understand what it means to be organized and how to take good notes. The dividers help keep their binders in orders and the pens, pencils, highlighters, markers and page protectors are great for note-taking. The chart paper can be used for projects. The Magic Erasers are perfect for their individual dry erase boards. Everything in this project is to help my students be successful middle school students
