Mrs. Madrigal from Sun Valley CA is requesting materials related to Food, Clothing & Hygiene through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students a complete care package of food staples, personal hygiene products, and back-to-school essentials to help families in need who have been impacted by the pandemic.
COVID-19 has upended our world and although the present is bleak, I am hopeful because I know my students are resilient.
My students are all new arrivals to the US and are 1st and 2nd generation children of immigrants, and this experience of staying at home and doing “distant learning” has been doubly difficult for them.
For many students, they are here in this country without their parents. They are cared for by their extended families, aunts/uncles or older siblings. For others, the fear of deportation and the inability to apply for federal aid has made food insecurity a dire situation at home.
Many of my students have jobs and work longer hours now that physical school presence is not required. They work to help their families survive because many have undocumented family members or families who have lost a job.
I remain hopeful because, in the face of such adversity, my students have made efforts to attend Zoom, reach out to ask for help which is why I'm turning to you now.
I've selected a variety of food staples that I hope students can stock their cupboards since many of them have daily food insecurity. Since the school closed and quarantine began, many of my students have had to be resourceful. I've selected a variety of different personal hygiene products to complete the care package and to help boost teen self-esteem during distance learning.
Our high school has been greatly impacted by the pandemic and many of our families seek help in local pantries and with the Los Angeles Unified School District's Grab N' Go program that not only feeds students but their families as well.
I hope that the selected items can help students who have expressed concern about unemployment stress and food insecurity at home. The personal hygiene products will help students to also know that the world still cares about them and that there are still kind folks out there looking out for their best interest.
Although my students are practicing social distancing, my teens still care about their personal hygiene and your contribution could help make a world of difference in these students' lives. The project includes products they can use to boost their self-esteem!
My students also care about starting off right in school and with your donation, you can help assure that they do. The project includes school supplies that can help them be successful as we continue with distance-learning in the fall.
Thank you for your time and for your help! It's greatly appreciated!
