Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in an inclusion kindergarten classroom that includes thirty students, many of whom have special needs and require specially designed instruction. As kindergarteners, my students are naturally excited about school and eager to learn. They are full of energy and keep me on my toes all day!
Our school is in a high-poverty urban neighborhood where all of my students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Most of my students are unable to attend high-quality pre-school programs, which can leave them at a disadvantage starting school. No matter where they start, it is my job to get my students where they need to be. I try my best to create a fun learning environment that keeps my students engaged, encourages them to express their creativity, and allows them to live up to their greatest potential.
My Project
I am getting ready to welcome a brand new class of kindergarten students. This group of five and six year olds are beyond excited to jump right into school life. They are eager to practice drawing and writing with their new pencils and crayons. They love to learn through art projects created with their glue. My students deserve to have the most fun and engaging learning experience that I can provide them with.
Unfortunately, many of my students' families cannot afford to buy them school supplies that are needed in the classroom.
And those that do send in supplies for the beginning of the year are often unable to replace supplies as they run out throughout the school year. I am hoping to get this project funded so that I can take some pressure off of these families, and myself, in having to purchase these essential supplies.
