Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students in my fine arts classroom consist of Pre-K through fifth graders. They have the energy and enthusiasm to explore and create, but are lacking the supplies to make their ideas come alive. The community my students come from is primarily low income, and 100% of them receive free breakfast and lunch. These students do not have the much-needed supplies or resources they need to succeed, especially in the fine arts. They have virtually no experience or exposure to any arts at home, whether it be art, theater, or even music.
My Project
The beginning of the school year is always hard, because we are not allowed to order supplies until after September. That means all supplies usually come out of my own pocket. We need a new stapler, scissors, pencils and sharpener to use for fun art activities and ice breakers for the beginning of the year. We also need laminating sheets and a laminator to create photos of famous works of art that we print using the toner that I am also asking for. Paint and chalk markers will be used to create canvases with inspirational quotes that we can hang outside of the art room.
