Going back to school means new school supplies. But what if you can't afford to buy all of those new supplies?
The students I teach come from low-income families.
Many of the students don't get to go home to their mom and dad after school because they have to work. Many of my students are watched by a grandparent, or often times just an older sibling. The school in which I work has a high percentage of students who receive free and reduced lunch, and can't afford to buy any new school supplies when a new school year begins. Almost all of the students I come in contact with are excited about learning, no matter what their background!
My Project
It seems silly to ask for the most basic items for a classroom, but unfortunately these are some of the things we need the most. Not only can many of our families not afford supplies on their own, but we have recently found out that our school budget has been cut so much, that these items most likely won't be available through the school either. These aren't "life changing" resources, but necessary for every day learning.
With your help, my students will be able to have new pencils, crayons, markers and glue sticks available to them when they need them.
