Mrs. DeVito from Cambria Heights NY is requesting classroom basics through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students the basic tools to have a successful school year. Copy paper, post-its, pencils, and highlighters will be used for group work activities that engage my students and promote cooperative learning.

Do you remember what it’s like to be in middle school? The awkwardness. The confusion. Where do I fit in? But also, the excitement. The new experiences. My students are going through all of this. However, on top of typical middle school issues, they also struggle with the fact that they often come to school lacking the basic materials needed in the classroom. Help my students start their year off on the right foot by giving them the tools needed to be successful during these tricky middle school years.
My students have so much potential.
They are 6th through 8th grade students with special needs who come from low-income households. While they face a variety of challenges on a day-to-day basis, they overcome and learn so much while they’re in the classroom. The school year is an opportunity for them to grow as individuals, to take risks, solve problems, and learn new things in a supportive environment.
These basic school materials may not seem like much, but they will allow my students to become successful learners this school year. The copy paper will allow my students hands-on access to any material we read together throughout the year. The post-its, highlighters, and pencils will allow students to read texts closely within groups or independently to help interpret and analyze meaning. Folders will allow my students with special needs to improve their organizational skills by carefully separating their science work from their social studies work.
My students will thrive in the classroom with these new materials.
Allowing them to effectively engage in all activities with the necessary tools will help them make significant growth this school year. Without the added stress of worrying about how to get school supplies for class, my students will be ready for all of the exciting activities in store for them this year!
