Help me give my students scissors, glue, binders, when their's is worn out, and most importantly freedom from worrying about not having what they need.
In my rural Virginia school, many of my students come from low-income households and purchasing even the most basic school supplies can be a challenge. I always want my classroom to be a safe place for my students, where the "grown up" worries they so often carry are left at the door. Having classroom supplies available for anyone who may need them, makes this possible. Simple things like bins of glue sticks and scissors change the entire feeling in a classroom. I'm looking foward to provide my little learners with these things!
My Project
First graders are busy little people who need to have their hands on their learning and a variety of activities to keep them engaged. With all the hustle and bustle of our day, glue runs out, pencils break, and binders fall apart. For many families in our school, purchasing just one binder or one pair of scissors was a stretch, so replacing them, just isn't a possibility. Having these materials ready and available to all students, takes the worry of going without and the embarrassment of not having their own off of my little learners. They have much bigger things to worry about, like learning to read and being a good friend.
