My Project

Recently I have been assigned to teach two new subjects and for the last 4 years, I have been a mobile resource teacher, meaning that my entire room has fit on a cart. So most of my teaching supplies were given to classroom teachers. With the teacher shortage in the state of Indiana, I have been asked to go back into a regular classroom teaching 9th-grade and 7th-grade English Language Arts, both I have never taught before.

Creating a classroom where students feel they can succeed is key to my teaching philosophy.

Many students feel that they can express themselves through projects rather than writing essays. The supplies that are listed will help me give the students an opportunity to work on such projects, which will help them express themselves better. Having a comfortable chair/seat will be a reward for those students who show good work ethic, improvement, and attitude in class. They will be able to sit in a more comfortable chair for the class period.

For students in 9th grade, the story of Romeo and Juliet is a classic that I feel they need to be exposed to, however, Shakespeare can be difficult to understand so the Romeo and Juliet book listed has a modern translation so that the students hopefully will enjoy reading it and not feel overwhelmed. Currently, the 7th grade reads the novel The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, but many of our copies are very worn, so new copies would be helpful so that the students have a complete version of the book.

Ms. Devillez will only receive her materials if this project is fully funded by August 17.
