Help me give my students pampers and wipes to ensure their children's basic needs are met. This will help alleviate surmounting cost that are often experienced as overwhelming.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Help me support the social and emotional self care of my students. Often times, we focus on the immediate academic needs of our students such as books, pens and paper. We seldom consider the social and emotional capacities that need nurturing and development. Our 9th-12th graders would benefit from resources that support them when life stressors create a problem.
Our students range in age from 16 - 24 years old.
As a School Social Worker, my job includes de-escalating difficult situations, providing strategies to deal with stress and anxiety, and being someone students to just talk to. In addition, I make efforts to support students with the supplies they need to manage their daily living. My hope is that this project will reach 25 students at my school.
Several of our students are parents or function in a parental role. Many of our students juggle school, employment, and manage the household. Also, our students reflect youth in foster care, group homes, youth involved in the juvenile justice system or newcomers to the United States. While they all come from different walks of life, they all need support in navigating that
My Project
This project will help offset costs students incur with parenting. As young parents, they are faced with many obstacles that impact their learning and can make life stressful. Eliminating one challenge can redirect their focus and energy on their academic progress and success. This project will support pregnant and parenting moms and dads at my school who need pampers and wipes for their newborns and toddlers. This material assistance will compliment the social and emotional support we make available to students in our parenting group. This project is greatly needed!
