This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach PE to students in grades K-5 in a multicultural school that celebrates diversity. My students enjoy running, racing, biking, bowling, dancing, and tennis. They also enjoy reading, math, and playing foursquare and basketball at recess. We are currently at a temporary location while our school is being remodeled.
Every year, we have a family multi-cultural night where families bring food and wear traditional clothes to celebrate their culture.
It's a great time to celebrate the diversity at our school.
My Project
We currently have wonderful yellow foam balls that are great for shooting baskets but don't bounce very well. The size is good for young students but it takes a lot of effort to dribble. My students in grades K-2 would really benefit from having these small basketballs that are made of rubber but look and feel like basketballs.
Many students need extra time and practice with their very own ball.
These balls would make a huge difference.
These balls would make it possible to work on other basketball skills such as passing, catching, and throwing. I'm also requesting these basketballs for students to take home for the weekend and return.
