Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My name is Mrs. Wendy. I teach a PreK class of 14 wonderful students. My students are in an area that is mostly lower income. They are inquisitive, kind, and great friends to one another.

My goal is to further their learning through hands-on play and experiences.

I hope to bring items into our classroom that can differentiate their learning experiences and also introduce them to materials they usually would not have exposure to. I want them to get the full PreK experience!

My Project

The resources that I am requesting for our PreK classroom will help to make our classroom an exciting classroom based on exploration and differentiated learning. Currently, our class sits at small round tables without a place to store individual learning materials. The seat storage sacks that I am requesting would allow me to place workbooks neatly out of the way as well as store different materials based on students' learning needs.

As of now, we do not have many science materials for our science center.

I have chosen Can Do Science kits with materials that I feel would motivate my students to explore and be excited about different science activities such as magnets, insects, and exploring our five senses.

Also, I have requested diverse dolls for our dollhouse and blocks center that are not only of different races but also differing abilities. We currently do not have any dolls in these areas for the children to play with.

Lastly, I have requested a puppet theater. We currently have many puppets, but the students do not have anywhere to play with them. This is a great activity that promotes conversations as well as the early stages of creating relationships with friends.
