Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a speech language pathologist providing individualized therapeutic interventions for students with various classifications, such as speech and language impairments, hearing impairments, learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, as well as other disabilities in grades kindergarten through fourth. My students typically need to work harder and spend more time learning new concepts and skills than their typically developing counterparts. In addition, my students also live in a high-needs community, where they are faced with more challenges in mastering the knowledge that they must acquire to succeed due to low socioeconomic status, as well as speaking another language other than English.
Nevertheless, my students thrive when provided with innovative instruction and positive reinforcement.
They believe in themselves and are motivated to become productive citizens. My students are eager to please and want to show others their wonderful accomplishments. My students have definitely developed a growth mindset.
My Project
The books I have chosen will make a great addition to our reading library. I will continue to enhance the print-rich therapy room that I strive to create. My library is a place that my students really enjoy. Every student book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and my students are thankful for the opportunities to read. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind.
With these new books, my students will be able to listen and discuss a variety of stories that will allow them to demonstrate and enhance their critical thinking abilities.
One of the best ways to improve reading, writing, and language arts is through read alouds. These books will continue to help my students to grow stronger academically. This project will help enrich my students' experiences with literature.
