This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember what it was like to wait for the next installment from your favorite author to hit shelves? My students love Newberry award winning books and are dreaming about reading the most recent winner.

My students are literature hungry avid readers who have no access to recently published literature.

The school district is in a high poverty rural community with resources barely covering the essentials. These students follow the Newberry award winning books and wish they could read the current winner.

My Project

As a class students want an opportunity to read a current Newberry award winner. Reading pieces of good literature have made eager readers out of otherwise reluctant readers who have struggled with literature in the past. An opportunity to read a recently published book has inspired students to complete their reading homework goals in order to have an opportunity to share a great piece of literature with their classmates.

Supporting this project will encourage students to continue their reading practice which will develop their reading abilities.

My students set reading goals and reached them in order to get access to a new Newberry book. I am hoping to be able to deliver this treasure to inspire them to keep reading.
