Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 23 extremely enthusiastic first graders in a self-contained ESL class. Students receive general education and English as a second language services simultaneously throughout they day.
My students are creative and incredibly kind individuals who have a real passion for all things literacy.
In their first grade year, kids really learn how to read and understand what they are reading. Being able to witness the magic of a student finally "getting it" has been an unbelievable experience. My students honestly light up when they are reading.
My Project
My students have worked so hard this year to finally become proficient readers, writers and mathematicians! Their faces just light up when they realize all of the progress they have made. Unfortunately, most of my students come from low income families and struggle to get access to books, computers and any other learning materials over the summer. We are requesting Summer Bridge activities books for Grades 1 - 2.
I fear that my students are susceptible to the dreadful summer slump where they loose a lot of the learning momentum that they have gained during the year!
Please help my students maintain and/or progress in their abilities over the summer, they really deserve a fighting chance at being successful in the future!
