My Students

Maple Park Middle School is a National AVID Demonstration School. Two hundred of the six hundred fifty student body population participate in the AVID Elective class. At Maple Park 68% of our student body qualifies for free or reduced lunch. Our students come from a variety of backgrounds, with 32 languages spoken, and an incredible desire to overcome any obstacles placed in their way.

They have made the commitment to enroll in this challanging elective course to shape not only their future but become a transformational figure for their family and friends.

AVID students are learning to to prideful of the hard work and difficult choices as they change lives.

My Project

With these supplies the students will be able to personalize the classroom into an inspiring learning environment where they can comfortably shape their futures. Due to changes in building codes from the city we are limited on ways the students can personalize the classroom.

This project will allow students to take ownership and pride in their learning and classroom environment.

AVID students will pick a college they are interested in and a meaningful quote. They will then use these items to paint a ceiling tile in the classroom. These ceiling tiles will then be a permanent fixture in our classroom to give the students a sense of belonging and ownership.
