it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember the thrill you felt the first time when you entered a library as a child? I want my students to feel that same sense of excitement through the world of books!
We can only instill the love of reading in children if we show them how reading can take you to faraway places, magical lands, and back in historical times.
Most importantly, reading is the key to accessing curriculum. If a student cannot comprehend what they are reading, they will struggle in becoming successful in all subjects, including reading, writing, math, social studies, and science. Giving students access to books that support their individual interests and reading levels helps to build their future.
Not only are we a magnet school with limited funding, but 53% of our students are also from low socioeconomic homes. Parents send their children to our school for a better opportunity. Our students are eager to learn and take pride in their work. There are 7 English learners and many others who also need continuous language support in my class.
My Project
Since my classroom library is outdated, my goal is to provide the multilevel library mobile library on wheels to inspire my students to develop a lifelong love of reading. The class set of Because of Winn Dixie will expand their reading repertoire and increase their vocabulary. I've included two additional books which I think will capture my students' attention. By utilizing the wheeled library cart to effectively organize my books according to their genres, my students will be exposed to and see the critical differences between the various types of literature.
New books introduced to the classroom library at all levels would encourage my students to keep reading.
Watching my students grow in confidence and English skills through their own motivation and hard work is immensely rewarding. A multilevel classroom library is so important to student success. It keeps all students engaged, builds their confidence in reading, and inspires them to achieve their personal best.
