My school/district struggle to see students (of all grade levels) make progress on national and state testing. Students are below grade level in all subjects. I have heard of the power of AVID - Advancement Via Individual Education and I KNOW it can be useful for my student population. AVID's mission is to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college and career readiness and success in a global society. Many district students live in families where no one at all has attended post-secondary education. This makes ALL students in my district AVID students.
AVID has always believed in the importance of setting all students up for every aspect of future success.
For many students, that path includes a traditional college route; however, in many other instances, students choose other routes such as trade school, certification, military, or directly entering the workforce.
Regardless of a student’s ultimate path to a career, AVID can support the development of rigorous academic preparedness, student agency, and opportunity knowledge. A student will be better prepared for college and career, which is core to the mission at AVID.
I want to make a difference in my students' growth by attending Summer professional development through AVID Ignite in August of 2024. AVID Ignite offers best-in-class virtual learning combined with resources for effective planning and inspiration, with a strong focus on promoting student growth and empowerment. This program equips educators to implement best practices that prepare every student to live a life of possibility.
