Students have been able to practice listening and comprehension skills while also exploring themes such as empathy, identity, perseverance, friendship, and belonging. The books have also provided a welcoming way for students to participate in discussions and share their ideas, even when they may not always feel confident speaking up during traditional academic activities.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, these books have helped create a classroom community where students can simply enjoy a story together. The generosity of our donors has given my students access to engaging, high-quality literature and created meaningful moments that they will remember long after the read-aloud ends. I received your donation of bookshelves and storage supplies and it has been a remarkable change. When I first got the boxes, my students were so interested, since they were very large and heavy. Once the students knew that they were bookshelves, they got so excited to see them! I had several students offer to come in during their lunch hour and put them together so that they could be used right away. I think about 8-10 boys ended up putting all of them together and I loved the teamwork!! \r\nSince then, I have loaded up all the books I had hanging around the room and put together bins with plenty of supplies that were taking up minimal storage space. All of the shelving space is giving my students a nice area to have books for their classroom and almost has given then a bit of a reading nook. I now get to look for more books that I can add to the shelves!! When I received the materials, my students were speechless because they had never seen keyboards that did not have the letters on them! The students have learned quite a bit as well, as I have seen their typing mastery increase as a result of using the keyboards.\r\nIt has also helped to have the computer riser, as I can have the students prop the computer on it so they can still see the screen but I can still cover the keys, and they are not tempted to use the keys on that chromebook keyboard. The stickers have helped as an incentive as well, since my students are obsessed with stickers and will do anything to get more. They type all the time with the keyboards now!
