AVID Fundraising 2: Support AVID Students' Fundraising Efforts with Materials
Help me give my students the materials for a sublimation printer and a heat press to fabricate t-shirts they designed themselves for fundraising purposes.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program offers career and college preparatory opportunities for students who normally may not have those opportunities. It focuses on teaching students transferrable skills to excel at academics, navigate through the intricacies of the college process, and earn the future careers they want. My school is Title I with a large population of migrant and immigrant families; thus, AVID provides our students and their families a route to college and career readiness that may have been blocked before. This project is the second out of two to get sublimation materials.
My AVID 8th graders this year are smart, entrepreneurial, and creative.
Many have strong graphic design skills that could lead into a career in the future. Additionally, their ingenuity also could lead to degrees in business or marketing. They collaborate and help each other, as well as lift each other up to be successful--skills they have innately.
Last year, students designed a T-shirt for their class, and I printed them using a Cricut. However, Cricut does not provide the same dynamics of a sublimation printer; furthermore, the printing and fabricating process did not go as well as hoped. With the ink and paper, I can print designs in color. Then, with the heat press, I can make sure to use the correct pressure to make quality shirts. I feel this will embolden students to go further with their designs, and we could fundraise for college trips and AVID events with their own work. Beyond normal field trip expenses, our district cannot provide transportation for the trips that would benefit AVID students' college aspirations. I feel this would be a fundraiser students could take ownership and pride in while also getting hands-on experience with the design, fabrication, and marketing included in this activity.
