This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am excited because we are starting AVID at the elementary level! AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination and is a program that teaches students how to stay organized, take good notes, and become critical thinkers to help them be successful in school. Using AVID teaching strategies, I will help my fourth graders become collaborative workers who are highly motivated and organized to meet and exceed all their future learning goals.

My students each need a 2-inch binder, pencil pouch, and plastic tab dividers to effectively organize their learning.

I will teach students how to keep their AVID binders organized and they will use their binders in reading, writing, and math to take notes and organize their papers. Students will have a goal-setting section in their binder where they will share weekly goals and progress toward learning targets with me, their parents, and each other.

A big part of AVID is teaching students how to effectively write, inquire, collaborate, organize, and read. These binders will be an essential part of this learning process, which will inspire them to maintain these skills throughout life. Thanks for considering my project to bring AVID binders to my classroom.
