My Project

I am the school librarian at a Title 1 school. My principal and I collaborated about a need for diverse books for National Autism Awareness month in April. I noticed we only have two books that depict characters that are autistic. I want all students to feel welcomed and seen in our learning community.

We will soon be adding a behavioral program at our school and these books will be essential for children that are autistic to see themselves in books and also to help others gain new perspectives and empathy for the world around them.

To ensure fairness, equity of access and diversity, I have selected 11 books to help our students gain a deeper understanding of autism.
