My students need a money math calculator and curriculum. They also need a Common Core ELA literacy curriculum kit. My students need weighted vests for their sensory needs.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"Sitting still is overrated. It makes sense for the opera or for meditating, but in most classrooms and child care centers, it's given far more honor than it deserves. Children need to move." ~Tom Hunter, National Association for the Education of Young Children.
My children are students with special needs including Autism, intellectual disabilities, and Down Syndrome.
We are in a Title I School in Georgia where about 90% of our student population receives free or reduced lunch. I am blessed to teach students who have a desire to learn. Unfortunately we lack resources to reach them at their level.
My Project
My students will use the items in this project to access their curriculum at their appropriate level. This year in addition to the common core curriculum, we are emphasizing Money Math in my classroom as a life skill. We are teaching literacy across the curriculum. The resources from this project will help differentiate instruction according to each student's ability. The sensory items will help students focus on their coursework. One of the items for the project is an ELA Common core literacy curriculum. It includes activities to teach phonic skills, as well as basic writing skills and parts of speech. Another item in this project is a money math calculator and activities to teach students how to count money and perform basic addition and subtraction skills. This project also included weighted vests and proper seating to help fidgety students concentrate and focus on the curriculum that is being presented.
Donations to this project will help my students achieve focus in the classroom.
The literacy and math skills they develop will be beneficial for years to come. The money math curriculum will help these students become fiscally responsible and teach them how to be good stewards of their money going forward. This will help them become responsible members of society.
