My Students
The students that I serve are a highly-diverse, vibrant group of kids. They hunger to learn, and they love to learn more about the world around them.
Our student population is a melting pot of ethnic backgrounds, life experiences, and interest levels. Most of our students do not have access to resources at home such as libraries and reading materials, and they love to browse through my classroom library to find novels for their reading projects. They have a wide variety of interests, and it is important for my classroom to reflect the interests of my students!
My Project
The students in our classrooms do not always have access to books at home, and may not be able to access the library outside of school. Without a school library to choose from, it becomes difficult for many of our students to have access to independent reading books for class projects.
Our students are incredibly diverse, and need books with characters and authors that reflect their heritage and ethnic backgrounds. Our students crave characters that look and sound like them. They love to learn about other cultures through the books on my shelf. They have specifically asked for more books with characters that reflect who they are, making it easier to relate and to engage with their book of choice!
