Authentic Listening in our Music Room

My students need new speakers in the music room, so they will be able to hear high-quality musical examples from various cultures and style periods.

My Students

Have you ever tried to listen to your favorite music with cotton in your ears? Of course not! But that's what it's like when I play musical examples for my music students. The speakers on my computer are not powerful or refined enough to provide my classes with authentic listening experiences.

My students are the most amazing people I know.

Each day I'm inspired to go the extra mile to provide them with quality musical experiences. I teach over 400 elementary school students, many of whom come from families that are unable to afford enrichment experiences such as attending a live concert, taking piano lessons, taking dance classes, or even playing Guitar Hero. I strive to compensate for the socio-economic conditions in our region by exposing my students to a variety of musical styles. I don't expect these children to grow up to sing with the Metropolitan Opera, or to perform at Carnegie Hall. My hope is that my students will love and appreciate music throughout their lives.

My Project

I have requested a set of Bose® Companion 3 Series II multimedia speakers. Through these speakers, my students will be able to hear the clarity and depth of the various styles of music I play for them. Bose is known for producing top-of-the-line stereo equipment. I personally went to a Bose retail store to listen to the computer speakers they manufacture. I was astounded by the quality of the Companion 3 Series II system, and by its ability to fill a large retail space with incredible, even sound. These speakers will be perfect for playing MP3 files and music from computer web sites for my students.

A wise yet anonymous person once said, "Music speaks what cannot be expressed, soothes the mind and gives it rest, heals the heart and makes it whole, flows from heaven to the soul." Your contribution will help me to fill the souls of my students with inspiration, through music.
