Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a Title I school in the city of Bridgeport, Connecticut where all of my students receive free breakfast and lunch. Our school is a pre-kindergarten through eighth grade building. Despite economic hardships, my seventh grade students are eager to learn and do their best. For many, school is a safe haven for them. I try to provide a safe and nurturing environment that promotes learning to the fullest potential. My students appreciate any and all help they receive in my ELA classroom.

My Project

This project will impact the students in my 7th grade classes directly. We will utilize the audiobooks in order to hear the text being read aloud. This makes the text accessible to everyone in the classroom (special education students, English language learners, auditory learners). Students are required to read "The Watsons Go to Birmingham" and "Touching Spirit Bear" in grade 7. Students will also be utilizing the teacher and student resources that correspond with those items during activities throughout this unit. Overall, my students will benefit from all of the related resources available for those two texts. My students also need a few more books that are high interest low readability.
