My students need an Apple iPad to enhance the classroom learning experience and to introduce the students to the multitude of educational apps for children.
I would like the Apple iPad for our classroom to give students access to the most exciting technology and to enhance and support the teaching and learning experience.
The first grade students at our school are eager and very motivated to learn.
The school vision is that every child will develop positive self esteem, be a life long learner, achieve academic, vocational and personal success at all stages of life.
The First Grade students at our school are eager to learn and appreciate the resources provided for them. I also assist "at-risk" students in Grades 2-5 in the after school program. Many of these students are second language learners and do not have the needed support in developing their English language skills at home.
Our school is located in the heart of the city and is known for being clean, attractive, and safe for all students. Our student population is predominately second language learners and the majority of students qualify for free or reduced lunch.
My Project
The Apple iPad will appeal to all learning styles and the educational apps will encourage cross curricular activities. The visual-spatial learners who know the world through mental and actual pictures will delight in the graphic representations at their fingertips, particularly beneficial in learning phonics, grammar, and vocabulary development. Children experiencing difficulties with reading fluency will be able to learn sight words and read stories at their listening levels through electronically supported text, which supplies pronunciations on a point-click basis. The logical-mathematical learners who know the world through patterns and numbers will be able to do analysis and improve mental math skills and inductive reasoning. The Apple iPad will be beneficial to all students in learning scientific concepts, social studies and geography.
The first graders and the "at risk" students in the after school tutoring program will be able to readily explore the many apps and online resources available on the Apple iPad to develop language skills, grammar, and oral and written language.
They can enhance their phonological awareness, and decoding skills through whole class activities projected with the document camera in the classroom, independently, and in a cooperative group.
