This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students do not get a lot of the "extras" in life. However, they do deserve them, and I am determined to make that happen.
I am the media specialist at a Title I school because approximately 90% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch.
Our school is in a very rural, farming community. Many of our students' parents work on farms every day to provide for their families. School is many of our students' outlet. Many of them stay home alone or with a single parent while their parents are working. They are honestly thirsting for knowledge and attention.
My Project
I am asking for a podium for my students. I know this sounds like a small and odd object to ask for, but this is what my students want. As the media specialist, I conduct a lot of research with my students. We also often hold debates. We do currently have a podium, however it is very old and not very user friendly or attractive. Therefore, most of the time the students just stand up front with their papers. I feel my students deserve something nice to stand behind to present their research in which they have worked so hard on. I think it would make them feel "important" and proud.
As said previously, many of my students don't have a lot of "extras" at home.
Therefore, I feel it is my job to provide these for them and this is the least I could do. They get so excited over the least little things, like a podium! We would appreciate any help!
