Attendance Fantasy League

Help me give my students fun incentives to help boost their school attendance.

My Project

I am a social worker at a Title 1 school in a very diverse neighborhood where the population is approximately one-third Caucasian, one-third African-American, and one-third Hispanic. Being a Title 1 school, many of the students come from families that have low income, and often the middle schoolers have to help their families out by watching siblings, working small jobs, etc. The students are very family-focused and are willing to do whatever they can to help ease the burden of their parents. As a result, the school attendance rates for many students suffer.

I hope to improve their attendance rates by starting a new attendance program at the school.

The new program will be designed around a fantasy sports model. I will have 9 to 10 staff members that will serve as coaches and choose at least 5 students to make up their fantasy team. Those teams will compete to have the highest attendance numbers. The items listed will be used as prizes for those students and teams that have the most attendance points. The goal is to boost attendance as well as a sense of belonging with students that have poor attendance rates. Each student will meet at least once a week with their coach.
