Every year, I get a new group of four and five-year-olds who are eager to learn. They love exploring the world around them and learning about how things work. My students love fairies, trucks, animals, rocks, dirt, princesses, sports, and many other things. I love teaching this age group because I know I can start their school career off in a positive way.
It is so important for students to love coming to school every day, and that won't happen if they are expected to do worksheets.
I try to make sure my lessons are engaging and hands-on. I get to lay the foundation for these students that every teacher after me will add on to. I am so lucky to be able to have the honor of working with our youngest students.
My Project
I am requesting new books for my students. We are going to be having a new storytime where students will be able to listen to stories and disscuss what they are reading about. Once we read these books together, I will be able to send them home in our book bags for the students to enjoy with their families. I am also asking for rocks and wood circles to add to our STEM bags. My students pick up new school supplies every other week. In their bags, I include a book bag, building bag, and paper activities for the next two weeks. With the new year, I am planning on starting STEM bags. The STEM bags will include a fun activity that the students will get to design, create, and share with their classmates. We will use the rocks to create a rock friend that they will name and design. The following week they will get supplies to build a home for their rock friend. We use to do these activities in our Makerspace, but that isn't going to be possible this year with distance learning. These bags will be a great way to bring our Makerspace into the homes of my students. Thank you so much for your support and help.
